Hello, "Wicked Game"! We meet again! Get ready, folks. This is gonna be a long one!
So, it's been three years since I first discovered how stressful this atrocity of an episode is, and TWO years since I've done my own two-part review on YouTube. After forcing myself to rewatch both the episode AND my review, I'll say that for the most part my views on "Wicked Game" have not changed. Sure, it may not get me as passionately triggered as before, but it does remain the episode of "As Told by Ginger" that I dread the most...that is unless I rewatch certain other bad season 3 episodes to see if they may outdo it.
God, I could go on about how Dodie was at her worst here! In addition to taking part in the plan to break Ginger and Darren up, she just spouts out this hatred for Darren, without having it conscious in her egg-shaped head that even though those two are dating, Ginger and Darren are still gonna be her friends! So, why should she worry? Heh, I just unintentionally made an “Oliver & Company” reference just now.
Also, you just gotta laugh at how she yells at how Darren's “got another thing coming,” then acts in denial like, “I don't wanna betray Ginger, but...” OH, PLEASE!! You know you want to! Quit acting like you're a victim of Miranda and Mipsy's manipulation, when YOU YOURSELF said you want to get rid of Darren, one of your BEST FRIENDS!!!
Overall, regarding this sack of dog feces, she still grinds my gears. As I already joked on Twitter, she needs to take lessons from General Skarr from “Evil Con Carne” on how to be a backstabber who's actually LIKABLE!! Now, I know it may sound like an apples-to-oranges comparison, considering Dodie is an ordinary teen who's “still learning”, while Skarr is SUPPOSED to be evil, but whatever. Skarr is just a delight to watch, unlike that damn mouthbreather Bishop!
BTW, I've been binge-watching A Dose of Buckley on YouTube (thanks to my buddy Norbert), so “mouthbreather” is one of my new favorite insults to use!
Now, we move on to Macie. (sighs) Why, Macie?! You can have a stronger spine than Ginger sometimes, as proven in episodes like “Come Back, Little Seal Girl”! You have a better conscience than Dodie! WHY DID YOU HAVE TO STOOP THIS LOW?!? Though I will give you this: unlike Dodie, at least you actually are capable of being sorry. Therefore, you're still one of my favorite characters.
Courtney was easily the best thing about this episode. She's always charming, and I strongly applaud her for not only helping Ginger be aware of the scandalous activity, but for also admitting that she is Ginger's “only true friend in the world.” Too bad that statement wasn't hammered into Ginger's skull!
Look, I get that Ginger's a kind girl and all, but considering her two “friends” teamed up with two of her enemies to ruin something that makes her happy, is that really something worth forgiving in an instant? I don't really think so.
I never cared too much for Carl and Noelle's plot in this episode, and I still don't feel passionate enough to comment on it. Although, that one picture of Polly “feeding” Carl bird food into his mouth was...sick.
Final thoughts! While I still hate “Wicked Game” for how crappy Dodie and Macie were (but especially Dodie), I will at least give it some points for TRYING to present the subject of betrayal. It's something to expect in life. Also, had it be given a proper resolution for how Ginger, Dodie, and Macie's sort-of-friendship remain unbroken, it would have been SLIGHTLY more forgiven. But as it stands, “Wicked Game” obviously deserves the biggest “Nay” I could give an “As Told by Ginger” episode for how ANGRY it made me. Any bad episode of “SpongeBob” is more tolerable than “Wicked Game” and other terrible “ATBG” episodes, and I'm NOT joking!
As I've said multiple times in the past, SCREW YOU DODIE BISHOP TO THE BURNING PITS OF HADES!!!
Good luck on the “continuation” of this story, “The Easter Ham”.
