) (I couldn't fit that bracket into my guest name)
I'd like to talk about the episode you talked about on the podcast today: Cry Wolf.
I'm sure this is an unpopular opinion, but I actually enjoyed this episode! I can definitely see where a lot of people would hate this episode, with Dodie revealing Ginger's deepest darkest secret to Miranda, but I didn't find it too bad. What I think makes it work here is the fact that Dodie revealed Ginger's secret BY ACCIDENT here. She didn't tell Miranda Ginger's secret willingly, it slipped out. It wasn't Miranda saying, "If you tell me Ginger's deepest darkest secret, I'll get you into the popular crowd!" That would've made the episode completely different (And as we all know, Dodie can be very willing to want to be in the popular crowd, even at the expense of others, see the previous episode Of Lice and Friends for more on that). But instead, Miranda tricked Dodie into thinking Ginger and Courtney were friends and that made Dodie unintentionally spill the beans. It's weak, sure, but I can buy it.
Not to mention the fact that unlike Of Lice and Friends (and many upcoming episodes where Dodie comes off as horrible like Wicked Game or Dodie's Big Break (you guys are gonna have a REAL HOOT talking about those episodes!)), Dodie owns up to what she did and even apologizes. Sure, she apologizes in Of Lice and Friends, but only at the end of the episode on a 3-way phone call, plus her fight with Ginger really brought down the episode a lot for me. If it hadn't been for Ginger and Dodie's fight, I would've probably considered Of Lice and Friends good. Dodie also tries to make things better by trying to shave Ginger's legs, and later it was resolved with Carl shaving Ginger's ankles giving the illusion her entire legs were shaved. And the resolution here felt a lot more satisfying than it did in Of Lice and Friends. So I think Dodie is a better character here than in Of Lice and Friends (If you think her behavior in this episode or Of Lice and Friends was terrible, oh, just wait till you guys get to Wicked Game or Dodie's Big Break! I consider those 2 episodes to be the 2 worst episodes of the entire series).
And of course, Carl's story is hilarious. Him becoming "Wolfboy" and growing hairier and hairier as the episode goes on is just a laugh riot. This is one of the few episodes of the show where I prefer Carl's story to Ginger's. I guess that's why the episode is called "Cry WOLF," because of Carl's story. Or, well, I guess it could also be called that because Dodie blabbed something she shouldn't have, which reminisces the story of the boy who CRIED WOLF. So, I guess it's called that for both reasons.
So, in all, I give this episode a low yay. Still a drop from Hello Stranger (any other episode of As Told By Ginger is, except for maybe Butterflies Are Free), but still good nonetheless.
Also, while not related to the episode, a bit of news: The 2 YouTube channels that had almost every episode of As Told By Ginger uploaded (AsToldByMaddie2 and AsToldByGingerEn) were recently terminated. There's still a few channels on YouTube with some episodes uploaded, but they don't have nearly as many as those 2 channels did, plus those 2 channels were especially good since they weren't pitched or zoomed in or shrunk or sped up or had one of the little tricks people do to avoid videos being taken down by copyright (which is how I guess those 2 channels were caught). Not to mention those 2 channels were up for a long time before they were terminated. AsToldByMaddie2 was created in 2011 I believe, so it was up for 6 years before being terminated. That's such a shame. I guess you'll have to buy the show legally now on iTunes or on DVD. I know it's better that way since you're supporting the creators and stuff, but uploading the episodes on YouTube was a quick way to see those episodes.
Anyway, that's all I have to say. I'm in between!

Miranda can be so evil! And Dodie really could use a lesson in keeping secrets!

Dear Patricia, Ashli, and Casey,
I'm a big fan of ATBG and your podcast, and I wanted to write in and agree with what you were saying in your review of The Right Stuff about how ATBG was influential and relatable for teenage/preteen girls, and offer my own perspective on how it helped me when I was that age. I'm transgender, and As Told By Ginger came out around the same time I started to realize that there was something different about me (when I was in 6th and 7th grade.) I didn't get to transition until I was a bit older, but seeing Ginger and her friends let me feel like I could at least vicariously experience some of the things other girls went through that I knew I was missing out on. Sometimes I feel like ATBG and my Judy Blume books kept me hanging on throughout that part of my life until I was at a point where I could come out and live as myself. Thanks for doing what you're doing and bringing attention to a classic show that has gone forgotten by many for too long!

That's so wonderful to hear on how much the show left a huge impact on you. We will definitely read this in our next comment section in the podcast.

I would just like to say that I think Ginger is an incredible character. She deals with the common struggles of a pre-teen in wanting to fit in and be popular, however aside from the "Ginger the Juvey" episode, she almost never compromises her character or doing what is right for the purpose of being accepted into the cool crowd. This was even confirmed by Courtney when she said in "The A Ticket" that she was fascinated that Ginger stayed Ginger even around Ian Richton-a guy she had a major crush on. What I also like about Ginger is that she will still choose her best friends over the popular kids, even Courtney. Again this was shown in the talent show episode where Courtney and Miranda ask ginger to be a part of their "talent show extravaganza", but Ginger politely declines as she explains to them that she always does an act with her best friends, Dodie and Macy. What really resonated with my, was that by the third season, as you guys mentioned in one of your podcasts, Ginger stops caring about trying to be popular and is more focused on her own relationships, her friends and her family.
On a side note-I find it a bit surprising when contrasting Ginger and Dodie. Dodie continues to remain obsessed with popularity and has even back-stabbed Ginger on more than one occasion in her pursuit of it. I often wonder, why Ginger and Dodie stayed best friends considering even Courtney was a better friend to her than Dodie ever was. In all this was probably one of my favorite shows of all time and although the series ended, it makes me happy to see that there are still people talking about it.

We have a lengthy podcast episode for you where we discuss about the 10th episode of As Told by Ginger "Kiss and Make-Up" and we read your comments from episodes 5-9 of the podcast. Also, I reveal an embarrassing old school picture of myself as a 5-year-old. I am so sorry, everyone!

Hey guys, I'm not sure when you'll get to the next episode of "The 'A'Ticket", but here are my thoughts on it:
I think this episode should have been a huge turning point in Ginger's feelings toward Ian Richton. Prior to this point, she had a major crush on him, and saw him as the cute, dreamy popular guy that every girl wants to date. However in this episode, Ginger suddenly realizes that Ian may not have been the wonderful guy she thought he was once she realizes that he was only using her to get a good grade in chemistry class and did not see her as much more than a "science wiz". I can totally relate to this. As someone who's been head over heels for that one dreamy guy in high school that seemed unreachable and out of my league, to me that person was everything but to them, it's like I was invisible and irrelevant which definitely hurt. I do believe this can be sort of a wake-up call in a sense because it really makes you realize that this person is probably not worth your time when they don't even think much of you, and are only keeping you from finding someone else who DOES see you as something special. While I do feel bad for Ginger in this episode, I thought it was very sweet how Courtney was being so supportive of Ginger in dealing and interacting with Ian. Dodie and Maci were supportive too but in more of a "bystander" sense which often seems to be the case with these two, while Courtney takes more initiative. In all, I really like this episode and I think it teaches a valuable lesson about crushes, and how people are not always what they seem when looking at them from a distance than on a more personal level.
Loving the videos, keep it up guys!
